Hand Tool Insights
Why Use One Light Over Another?
Blast light choice comes down to three factors – luminaire type, budget, and safety concerns. The luminaire will be either a LED or a halogen lamp. LED units are more expensive but provide advantages over halogen lamps. Halogen lamp units are lower cost. Helmet mounted lights ensure the illuminated area is the same as the direction the operator is looking.
However, for those working in potentially combustible environments – a CERTIFIED EXPLOSION PROOF light is critical. Such lights are obviously going to be more expensive, but trust they are worth the life and limb of yourself and everyone else within range of a potential explosion.
Common Issues With Blast Lights?
Glass fronted blast lights have lenses that are broken by impact. Halogen lamps put off considerably more heat than LED lamps. This make them hot while in use and makes the glass lens more brittle. A more brittle lens breaks easier. Halogen bulbs are more easily broken than LED lamps
Important Considerations For Choosing The Right Blasting Light
What is your budget?
What length of cable do you want?
Will the light be battery powered or mains powered?
If you choose a low budget unit, are you prepared for higher spare parts consumption?
Helmet mounted or hose mounted?
Do you want to repair / replace spares yourself?
